Ryan Mitchell Suffers Crash During Dig or Die No Prep Event at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina

A well-known ride in the no-prep game, both on the track as well as ‘back-of-the-track’ and ‘street’ racing, the small tire third-generation Pontiac Firebird commonly referred to as “The Firebird” or “KC Maxx Firebird” suffered a crash at the end of a run at the popular Dig or Die event at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina on Friday.

Ryan Mitchell, the owner and driver, is normally in the mix at most no-prep events with this Firebird, and although it’s picked up its share of wins with a twin-turbocharged big block set-up, Ryan recently made the change to a ProCharger F-3 supercharger.

The switch in power-adders has already proven fruitful, as Ryan has found success at both Yello Belly Drag Strip in Texas, as well as Wagler Motorsports Park in Indiana in the last few months.

During last night’s action at Rockingham, the Firebird was on a good run when it went wheels-up at the finish line, leading to the crash.

Thankfully, Ryan emerged okay, and although the damage looks extensive, Ryan stated “car runs and drives, looks mostly cosmetic at the moment.”
