This Four-Door Chevelle Is No Taxi - It Wants Fours On The Eighth-Mile!
Despite its sleeper appearance, the ’67 Chevelle known as “Honk If Parts Fall Off” has become a well-known ride on the drag-and-drive event circuit.
Rick Steinke has participated on multiple Hot Rod Drag Weeks, and added Summit Midwest Drags to his checklist in 2021. Last year, Rick came to Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive to compete in the 235 Outlaw Street Race class, but problems put him out after the Gainesville stop.
Acquired in 1993 as his first car and high school ride, the ’67 Chevelle bucks the LS-swap common for classic rides with a 414 cubic inch gen-one small block Chevrolet engine.
Twin 71-millimeter turbochargers provide the boost, Holley EFI controls the functions and keeps the engine happy on E-85 fuel.
A Turbo 400 transmission with a ProTorque bolt together torque converter sends the power to the rear end, and mostly stock suspension and Menscer Motorsports shocks gets the small Mickey Thompson tires to hook up.

Rick currently has the Chevelle apart for “routine maintenance” and hopes to complete Sick Week in his second appearance. He will run the Rowdy Radial class, which is based around the small 235 tire. Rick has a good amount of experience with the tire, clocking a best of 5.05 at 138 mph in the heads-up Limited Street 235 class, which he participates in when he’s not doing drag-and-drive events.
“I hope to make a four-second eighth-mile pass in Rowdy Radial,” said Rick of his Sick Week goals. “But I also just like doing street car stuff with my friends.
“All three co-pilots have ridden with me before, and two of my co-pilots have completed multiple Drag Weeks driving their own cars (his wife Jacki Steinke, and father-in-law Bob Niemczyk).”
Rick and Jacki’s son Troy completes the crew. “Winter sucks, so it is so nice to go somewhere warm and race when there is snow where I live.”
