Prepping for a Drag-and-Drive Event On a 6-Second Small Tire Mustang

As stated by David Freiburger since the beginning of the drag-and-drive movement: it’s normally not the racing that puts people on the sidelines during a drag-and-drive, it’s the ‘drive’ portion.

Cruise routes are set, roads can be unforgiving, and what a commuter car might accept with no issue may put a competitor on the sidelines for the night, or sometimes the event.

Companies with drag-and-drive customers have started to engineer products, and sometimes instructions to help with the varying uses of their parts.

Motion Raceworks even has a safety checklist available to help going over your ride before each event. But there’s not substitution for taking time to go over your car, trailer if you pull one, etc. for an hour or two to save yourself a possible headache.

One of the competitors that has made a splash in drag-and-drive competition this year is Devin Vanderhoof and his ’93 Ford Mustang convertible. The Mustang has been in the 6.8-second range at over 200 mph on a 275/60/15 radial, and has won class each of the three drag-and-drive events it’s entered in 2023.

Just last week, Devin and co-pilot Josh Davis competed in Hot Rod Drag Week. But before the Mustang made the trip to South Carolina, Devin detailed some of the things he inspects checks before departing on a drag-and-drive event.

He also highlighted a few interesting parts and changes that can eliminate some of the parts attrition a drag-and-drive can bring.

Watch all the details here:
