Not a Case of the Mondays – Day Three of Death Week Puts Participants on a Cruise Along the California Coastline

Two days of driving and racing were in the books, so Death Week rolled into Monday with the first of two dedicated drive days on the docket.

The drive along California’s coast would take competitors from Lakeside through Laguna Beach, Santa Barbara and finally end the 285-mile drive in Buellton.

The first stop of the day was Ruby’s Diner in Laguna Beach, a cool photo spot with classic cars surrounding the front of the location.

From Ruby’s Diner it would be mostly the California 1 / Pacific Coast Highway for some scenic views and roads close to the water in route to stop number two, Stern’s Wharf.

A unique location with both restaurants and shops, cars and trucks are allowed to drive on the wooden pier as well. So, most Death Week participants took advantage.

The final destination for the day would come about 44 miles later: Firestone Walker Brewery Company.

Between the checkpoints, some of the competitors found some cool attractions to visit.

Bryce Nicolson was one of several that took the photo op at the Fast and The Furious movie Toretto house.

David and Robert Williams enjoyed some late-night lights at Santa Monica Pier.

But while some were enjoying the extra time and additional sights, other competitors were working to fix issues and get back on the road.

Daniel Roberts had some issues with his stick-shift Mustang Cobra and a lean fuel condition, which required dropping the fuel tank for a fix. He got everything fixed in time to make it to the final checkpoint before midnight.

Zack Rudy needed some help on his station wagon’s driveshaft, so he dialed up Oceanside Driveline and was back on the road within a few hours.

Death Week’s road tour starts the second drive day on Tuesday, October 24th by racking up more miles in route to the next track destination: Famoso Drag Strip in Bakersfield, California.
