Moore and Sandweg Secure Victories at Fast Fall Shootout II at Bonne Terre Drag Strip

Doug Sandweg and Matt Moore, who started their 2023 season competing in the Rowdy Radial class at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, have capped their season with victories at the Fast Fall Shootout II, held at Bonne Terre Drag Strip in Missouri.

Matt, who heads Moore Race Chassis & Fabrication, put together the annual event that featured both a Small Tire class and a 235 Tire class (8.5-inch width) for its second time at Bonne Terre Drag Strip.

Matt donned a slightly ‘bigger’ sized Mickey Thompson Pro Bracket Radial over the 235 tire that he has been running on this year, and wheeled his 1989 Mustang to the Small Tire class title, with a best pass of 4.68 at 157 mph in route to the final round victory.

“No better way to end the 2023 season than with a personal best and the win,” said Matt. “Prep was on point, and we were able to put together back-to-back 4.6x-4.8x passes, all the way to the finals. I think we have a lot of room to grow on radials with the current combo,” said Matt, hinting at goals for the Mustang in the future.

Doug kept the small-sized 235 tires on his turbocharged 2002 Chevrolet Camaro for his chance at the $3000 to win class, and earned the win with a 5.34 at 135 mph best pass on his way to claiming the big check.

“What a great day, and the best ending I could have imagined,” said Doug. “It’s still hard to believe, but I took a deposit on my car and it’ll be going to its new owner next week. No better send off than to have tons of family and friends down at Bonne Terre Drag Strip for the day and both me and Matt Moore pulled off wins in our classes at Fast Fall Shootout.”

Matt is registered for the 2024 edition of Sick Week, while Doug will now turn his focus to a new build (details to come).
