Mike Finnegan Bringing Blasphemi to Sick At The Rock for Stick Shift Action in the Sick Street Car Challenge Class!
Considering he has experienced success, as well as breakage, at several drag and drive events, Mike Finnegan remains positive about the sport that pulled him in early on in his Roadkill and Hot Rod days. From a pit reporter to a stick shift Gasser driver, Finnegan has seen a lot of what makes a drag and drive function and work.
But he’ll embark on a different version of the event next month, when Finnegan and his ‘Blasphemi’ 1955 Chevrolet will compete in Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks at Rockingham Dragway.
Our Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks event is only a couple weeks away, and we’re debuting a new class - the Sick Street Car Challenge class - with $32,000 up for grabs!! This two-day drag and drive format class is our newest format, and you don’t necessarily need to be the quickest overall. We have 32 different categories with $1000 up for grabs in each, and we’ve come up with some good ones to give every competitor a shot. It all takes place at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina April 10th - 12th, 2025! For more details on Sick At The Rock, and the over $50K in payouts, CLICK HERE!
Finnegan has made more appearances at Hot Rod Drag Week than other events. But he has done a few others, including Rocky Mountain Race Week and Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive. The latter two he has a 100-percent completion record at, and although he has a couple drag and drive project cars waiting in the wings, it will be ‘Blasphemi’ getting the nod for a couple more events this year.
“After completing Sick Week, I’m in love with the car again,” said Finnegan of his ’55 Chevy. “I feel like that week helped us learn a lot, and I want to get back in the seat again.”
Although Finnegan is excited to have time in his schedule to come to Rockingham Dragway, he admitted it’ll be a different style of event for him. “As many drag and drive events as there are this year, I keep having trouble finding ones I can go to (working with my schedule),” Finnegan said. “I am interested in Sick At The Rock because I wanted to go drive the car. I was a little confused about it, because it’s not like any drag and drive I’ve ever done. I kept texting Tom with questions.”
He admits the shorter drive distance and three run average is a different way, but the two-day format should hopefully bring more participants. “I hope it gets more enthusiasts to come out and try a drag and drive,” said Finnegan. “I might get with Tom and see if we can get a group to go cruising together Friday evening. I think that would be cool, and the local community could participate too.”
Mike Finnegan is coming to Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina to claim his share of the $32,000 up for grabs in our Sick Street Car Challenge class; will he be the Quickest Gasser, as well as Quickest Stick Shift or Quickest Supercharged?
