Michigan-Based Wagon Will Travel South for Third-Straight Sick Week in Search of 8-Second Passes

The kick off to the drag-and-drive season, Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive also provides several participants a chance to escape the cold of winter for the warmer Florida atmosphere.

One of them is Kyle Cartwright, who will ditch the Michigan snow to attend Sick Week for the third time.

Bringing his 1983 Chevrolet Malibu station wagon that his six-year-old daughter calls ‘The Wagon’, Kyle looks forward to Sick Week each year, as it was his first drag-and-drive event. “I have completed in all the Sick Week events,” said Kyle. “They have all been just awesome; I’ve made tons of lifelong friends all over the country; even some from other countries.”

After wheeling the wagon in the Dial-Your-Own class for two years, Kyle is ready to step up the pace and jump into the Sick Street Race class. “I’ve only been limited to 10.00 elapsed times due to not having a certified roll cage,” said Kyle. “But that’s all changed for 2024.”

With the ability to exercise the wagon to full extent, Kyle will make a play for the single digits with a 6-liter LS swap with twin 78-millimeter turbochargers providing the power.

A Powerglide and a Ford 9-inch rear end ensures all the power gets to the rear wheels, and a full set of Viking Performance shocks will control it all. “I’ve made the switch over to radials this year, and I’m shooting for an 8-second pass.”

Although Kyle normally participates in bracket racing during the year because it allows him to race with his daughter in her junior dragster, Sick Week will allow him to spend time with his wife as well. “My wife, who will be 5 months pregnant, will be my copilot and support on Sick Week,” said Kyle. “I love street driving my car and racing. Drag-and-drive is the best of both worlds and such a challenge.”
