Michael Westberg Sets Street Week Sweden Record in Route to Collecting Third Event Title

After two successful drag-and-drive events in the United States, Michael Westberg sold his 1991 Chevrolet S-10 that had ran a best of 6.40 in route to securing the overall win at this year’s Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.

But the truck was sold as a rolling chassis, as Westberg hinted he planned to use the potent ACE Racing Engines 400 cubic inch LS engine and twin Precision turbochargers in a new ’67 Camaro chassis.

Fast forward to early July and the start of Street Week Sweden, and Westberg opened the week with a 4.34 at 158 mph eighth-mile time slip for the overall event lead.

For a car that only had a handful of passes on it before Street Week had started, it got a lot of attention. But Westberg had been a best of 4.16 at 177 mph during Sick Week in the pick-up, and he hinted there was more left in the new Camaro.

By the fourth day of Street Week Sweden, Westberg had turned the screws on the combination to deliver a new personal-best elapsed time, a 4.09 at 175 mph, good enough to also stand for a new Street Week Sweden event record.

At the conclusion of street Week Sweden, Westberg found himself holding the belt for his third win at the event.

“There have been many ups and downs during the week,” said Westberg. “When we did the math during the week, I should not have stood at the highest podium. But under all the bad luck, we have had some luck also.”

The bad luck included tearing a brake caliper bracket and hose off, puncturing the trailer, breaking the ECU during Wednesday’s drive, and the turbo’s wastegates shorted out. But Westberg was able to overcome with spares and the help of good friends.

With Westberg holding his third Street Week Sweden win, as well as his second drag-and-drive victory of 2023, what is next?

“What about the future? It remains to be seen,” said Westberg. “Having done almost everything I wanted now, but we are aiming for Tierp in August as the next event if everything looks good during routine check.”

Could a return to the United States be in the cards?
