LaSala Sets New Record at Sick Week Day Two

Thousands of fans filled Bradenton Motorsports Park to capacity for day two of Sick Week 2025 Presented By Gear Vendors Overdrive, where Brett LaSala blasted to a new world record for a radial tire drag-and-drive car.

LaSala’s stunning time of 6.210 at 231.56mph eclipsed his own record of 6.263 from last year’s Sick Week, solidifying his lead overall with a 6.349 average. To make the record official, LaSala will still have to complete the event.

With three days of competition remaining, LaSala’s lead has already blown out to four tenths of a second compared to his nearest rival Josh Davis.

“Orlando will be good tomorrow and it will be hard for me not to turn it up to make a really fast pass,” LaSala said. “We are going to play it smart but at the same time I like to go fast.

“We are trying to get some sleep. It was a long first day with the weather and a nine-hour drive, so we need to get our heads back in a spot to make good decisions.”

Davis used a 6.406 pass to climb to second overall and to first place in Modified, taking his average to a 6.717. But the run came with drama at the top end as the windshield of the Devin Vanderhoof-owned Ford Mustang shattered, spraying glass shards through the cabin. Fortunately Davis escaped injury and the team were able to source a new windshield in just a few hours.

“It’s a little less than ideal,” he said. “Honestly it looks way worse than it is. We got real lucky in a bad situation and we’re thankful nobody was hurt.”

Retaining third overall was Alex Taylor, along with her lead in Unlimited Iron. Her 6.780 performance for a 6.745 kept her narrowly ahead of Graham Hayes’ 6.794 average. Hayes had a scary moment in the braking area with a broken driveshaft and some busted rear end chassis components, leading to a long afternoon of work to get onto the road.

Other class leaders include Nick Rinehart in Heavy Metal (6.939 average), Glenn Hunter in Pro Street (7.004 average) and Bob Hess Jr in Super Street (7.434 average). Hess Jr took over the lead from Doug Cook, whose motor damage proved too much to repair after his six-second pass yesterday.

Darin Hendricks leads Stick Shift (8.861 average), while Ed Ensor repeated his world record time in Naturally Aspirated with another 7.090 for a 7.090 average. Jamie Doller has the only four-second average in Rowdy Radial so far with a 4.986 and Rick Fletes leads Sick Week Freaks in his diesel Chevelle on an 8.585 average.

After handing in their time slips, racers drove over 200 miles across the Florida peninsula, stopping at official checkpoints Charlotte’s Webb Pub and Larsen Motorsports along the way. The latter hosted a spectacular jet dragster fire show to show the Sick Weekers a different kind of horsepower!

Day three of Sick Week 2025 Presented By Gear Vendors Overdrive will take place at Orlando Speed World with racing from 9am on Thursday. Spectators can purchase tickets online or at the gate.
