Jose Gonzalez Wheels Mark Micke’s Pro Mod ‘69 Camaro to a 5.35 at 272 MPH in Testing - Quickest Pass Ever By a Door Car

While some of the racing world has put their stuff away for the winter season, some tracks are still open in the south.

Included in that list is Bradenton Motorsports Park, which is hosting the 52nd Annual Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by Motion Raceworks on November 30th through December 3rd.

Several teams are testing this week, and with favorable weather and track conditions, the chance for some quick times and speeds is very likely. Tuesday private testing would see the first of likely several notable runs broadcasted, as the quickest quarter-mile pass for a door car changed hands.

Former multi-time NMCA and PDRA champion Mark Micke’s 1969 Camaro Pro Mod build, which we covered in January this year, made some laps during a private test session today.

With former NHRA world champion Jose Gonzalez of EGR Racing behind the wheel, the RJ Race Cars Camaro made an impressive 5.396 at 260.56 mph pass in the mid-afternoon session, with a 3.599 at 219.29 mph at the eighth-mile mark.

That got a lot of attention on social media, just a couple ticks away from the existing 5.37 record time for a door car.

But the team wasn’t done yet. With the corrected density altitude about 100 feet below sea level, Jose returned to the right lane to make one last hit before testing concluded for the day.

Just over an hour-and-a-half after his 5.39 pass, Jose made a full quarter-mile run that set the internet afire: 5.359 at 272.94 miles per hour, the quickest pass by a door car in drag racing history! The 60 foot time came in at .926 seconds, while half track was eclipsed at 3.575 seconds at 219.19 mph.

Earlier this year when Mark’s Camaro debuted on the Mainline hub-dyno at FuelTech’s Georgia location, it made an insane 4,779 horsepower!

A Pro Line Racing HEMI powerplant with a pair of Garrett turbochargers is response for the ponies, while one of Mark’s M & M Transmission 2-speed Turbo 400 transmissions funnels the power. All the engine management is done through FuelTech.
