It’s Tech in and Testing Day for Sick the Magazine’s Death Week - We’ve Got Tales From the Road In Route to Arizona

The months of planning, testing and plotting a “let’s have fun” but “can we survive” strategy is about to be put to the test; it’s tech inspection and testing day for Death Week at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

With several competitors making trips over 1,000 miles to make it to the starting point, a few have already experienced issues on the road to Arizona.

Tom Bagguley discovered a damaged c-clip eliminator on his rear end of his 1986 Mustang just outside Farista, Colorado yesterday. After searching for a replacement, he’s opted to clean and pack the bearing with grease. “Since it still rotated fine, I’m going to limp it a bit and see how it fairs,” said Tom. “Wish me luck!”

Jarrod Aspegren needed to roll his odometer up by 1200 miles to arrive for tech today, but he only got two miles into the trip before an “autograph seeker” hunted him down. Let’s hope the remaining 1198 miles are smoother sailing for Jarrod.

Rajveer Ahuja is bringing his Yukon-based Oldsmobile Cutlass, but had problems with his truck that put him behind in transit.

Luckily, fellow drag-and-driver Tom Stark offered up a place to stay and fix his truck, and Rajveer is back on the road again (although we think he might have gotten lost in route to Arizona).

Luckily, some are enjoying the trip with little to no issues, and are taking in the scenery in route to Chandler, Arizona.

Stick shift combatants Richard Guido and Chris Hein are making the trip from Canada, and “staged” this photo for Dan Nissen. “We like to stage photo ops for the general public,” Nissen said on Facebook.

Since he’s already in Arizona, Jim Forbes did a test run of his own checkpoint photos with a cool Nova gasser, including this capture at the Tombstone Courthouse.

Austin Hart had some extra time on his way from Illinois to Arizona, so he rolled his 1972 Pontiac Lemans over to Cadillac Ranch for a photo op.

These are just some of the stories we’ve discovered leading up to Death Week. Can all participants survive ten days, three different race tracks, and what could be ultimate drag-and-drive?
