Is This The Most Extreme Drag And Drive Yet?

Alaska Speed Week has begun, sending a couple of dozen brave racers around Alaska for the adventure of a lifetime.

Sick The Magazine’s Chris Story is on-site, putting his magnificent photo skills to work to capture the scenery and the speed of this unique event. We’re going to have a full feature in our next magazine, but for now, Chris managed to fight a grizzly bear away from the only wifi router in northern Alaska to get us through these images.

Chris got a ride up to Alaska with Phil Balmaceda in his C6 ZR1 Corvette. He’s currently leading the Stick Shift class with 11-second time slips.

David Young is leading overall thanks to a 10.959. That might not sound so quick, but remember that these cars have to make it around Alaska’s notoriously rough highways for a week. Think you could do better? Make sure you’re there next year then, or else pipe down.

We’re not surprised to see some trucks in the mix, alongside a mix of classic and modern muscle.

The Dodge Challenger seems to be a popular choice, and why not? These factory brutes combine big horsepower with modern road handling. But can we talk about these views for just a moment?

After completing the first race day at Alaska Raceway Park, the field set out for the North Pole…well, a town called North Pole at least. After a car show there, they will be racing at Tanacross, an air field track that is one of the northern-most motorsport venues in the world.

We’ll have more from Chris Story throughout the week!
