Husband and Wife Ride Late Model Mustang Into Drag-and-Drive Competition
Modern powerplants have shown that with even a small amount of modification, 9-10 second times are possible while still retaining all the creature comforts and smooth driving.
From local test and tune weekends, to competing in her first drag-and-drive event, MaryAnn Young has made it a fun activity with her husband Guy Young.
Getting her start with a 2002 Ford Lightning pick-up truck, the Youngs started at the 2015 edition of Hot Rod’s Drag Week event.
They discovered a blown head gasket during the event, and decided to build up the engine before their next outing, using a JLP bottom end and cylinder heads, along with a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger.
The Youngs participated on three more Hot Rod Drag Weeks, but decided they wanted more.

MaryAnn choose a brand-new 2019 Ford Mustang GT, and added some Stainless Works headers and a Whipple 3.0-liter supercharger to allow the Coyote engine to make more power.
They participated in the 2021 edition of Drag Week, netting a 10.73 average. Now the Youngs are looking forward to the 2023 edition of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.
“Obviously we hope to finish in one piece,” said MaryAnn. “Also, run consistent and hopefully be in the top half of the Dial Your Own (DYO) class.”
“We look forward to meeting some amazing new people,” said MaryAnn, “and reconnect with friends we’ve made along the way.”
