Heavy Street To Be Added to Sick Week and Sick Summer Class Roster for 2024!

The drag-and-drive landscape changed dramatically in 2023, with more events, more class winners heralded, and performances that even some veterans couldn’t have predicted.

As class performances and car builds have changed, some events have changed or added classes to stay current with the times, as well as looking at what the future could bring and keeping classes relevant.

Today, news dropped that Sick Week and Sick Summer 2024 will feature a new class, the Heavy Street class!

An official class announcement and rule set will be coming soon, but based on the initial news made by Tom Bailey, the class is already getting good feedback.

“I feel like there was an opportunity to make a place for heavy steel cars,” said Tom. “Traditionally they got in a class based on their chassis, tire, combo, etc. I thought ‘why not have a spot for them solely based on being heavy.’

I reached out to several competitors and received positive feedback on the idea, so let’s see how it works out. I think there will be a huge variety of cars that will skip the Weight Watchers meetings and move to this class.”

The official class announcement and rule set will be coming soon, but Tom has already has ideas about a few things: a 3550 pound base weight (and that minimum weight needs to be made without any ballast), all steel body minus hood and deck lid, stock wheelbase, wings are allowed, no chassis rules, no tire rules. “These are not the official rules, but you get the idea,” said Tom. “This is for heavyweights.”
