Fun By the Truckload as a Family Will Participate in Their First Sick Week

After attending Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive last year as part of Sick Ward, Alberto Fernandez will make the jump to the track side as a participant on Sick Week this year.

And Alberto will be doing it in possibly one of the largest and most comfortable rides on the tour, his 2003 Chevrolet Suburban.

“The closest we have come to a drag-and-drive event was last year in Sick Ward,” said Alberto. “It was a great, fun experience and can’t wait to be on the other side of it!”

To hit the track with a bit more power than a stock Suburban would pack, Alberto added a Texas Speed fully forged LS 6.0-liter short block, worked 862 casting cylinder heads, and a Precision 7675 turbocharger.

Alberto backed the newfound power with an upgraded 4L80 overdrive transmission and a Circle D converter in the bellhousing, and dropped the ride height by four inches in the front, and five in the rear.

Sick The Mag keeps its web articles ad-free thanks to merch sales and magazine subscriptions. Thank you to all of you who wear our stuff and read our books!

Sick Week not only gives Alberto the chance to get back into racing after an absence from it for nearly 30 years, but involve his son as his co-pilot, and his wife will also join to race her Mazda Miata as well.

“My son basically built this truck with help of family and friends,” said Alberto. “He’s always been my gear head since he was a baby. This is our father son build, he’s learned so much, he knows more than me now!”
