From Wreckers to Checkers, This Camaro Is Aiming for Single Digits at Death Week

Some enthusiasts don’t like to step too far outside the stock vibe, not wanting to mess with or alter the original vision. Others are all about creating their own vision, using the car or truck as a blank canvas and sketching out their ultimate ride.

For Jarrod Aspegren, this wrecked 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was originally supposed to be just a donor car, but his plans changed. “I bought it back in 2013, and decided to put it back together stock,” said Jarrod.

Then plans changed again, and the snowball effect grabbed Jarrod and shook him until the fifth-generation Camaro was in the single digits. “I traded in the factory LS3 for an LSX built by Bowtie Engine Shop in Greeley, Colorado,” he said.

Then he added in a Boost District 2650 supercharger for good measure, and chucked the factory manual transmission for a 4L80 automatic. “It's a lot of fun moving from 12s, to 11s, to 10s, to 9-second passes,” said Jarrod.

Just a few years back, at Rocky Mountain Race Week (RMRW) 2.0, Jarrod stood atop the 11-second class, and in his second year of drag-and-drive events, he knew it would be an annual thing. “Race Week in the fall is our go to every year,” Jarrod said, referring to himself and friends that hit up the event. “We've been to every one since they started doing them. We like to add in one more drag-and-drive throughout the year.

Last year was the inaugural Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, and this year it will be Death Week. We'll see what fits our schedule next year, but the east coast is on the list at some point.”

Making the move to Death Week could be a risky one, but Jarrod feels he and the group he enjoys the drag-and-drive events with is ready. “Spending time with our boys. Joey Marshall, Zack Rudy, and I are all flying our kids out to meet us and co-pilot,” Jarrod said of their plans. “I’m looking forward to the drive, the scenes, new tracks, everything really.”

What does he think could be the difficult part of Death Week? “The miles, the break downs. Come on man, we got 2 Fords in the group. I hope Portable Car Hoist tags along,” Jarrod laughed.

Regardless of the outcome, Jarrod is amped to take another epic trip. “Zack Rudy started as my copilot in 2020 at RMRW 1.0, and my son Conner at 9 joined in 2020 at 2.0,” Jarrod said. “Zack and Conner shared the position until 2022 when Zack finished his own car.

My cousin Joey got his car in 2021 and joined in the fun. Conner is now 12, and looking forward to participating in Jr. Street next year. It's absolutely amazing being able to spend a week one on a drag-and-drive, all while he's learning everything cars and some life skills along the way.”
