From the Ashes, a ‘57 Chevrolet Wagon Gets a New Lease on Life

It was February 2022 when Aydan Bailey last made a pass behind the wheel of a ‘57 Chevrolet station wagon.

On day five of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, and that 8-second pass ended with the car on its roof at the end of the track. The Shit Box of Doom’s future looked bleak.

After months of searching, a replacement ‘57 Chevy wagon was found, ironically in a similar color to its predecessor. The “Deuce Box” it would be christened, and the build was on.

Fast forward to spring 2023, and the car was starting to take shape, but it was in question whether it could be completed in time for Sick Summer Presented by TBM Brakes.

Once it had received glass on May 21st, Ayden decided it was a full-court press. He called in reinforcements.

Joey Barry, who made the Sick Week trip with Aydan in 2022, flew from Colorado to Michigan six days before tech day for Sick Summer, determined to help Aydan try to button up the “new” wagon.

The two practically lived at Tom Bailey’s garage for those six days, only stopping to eat and sleep a few hours a night (if that).

Less than 24 hours before tech inspection opened, the wagon still needed work, and had yet to run. It was loaded for the trip from Michigan to Illinois, knowing there was still a solid amount of work to be done.

Tom sat down with Aydan to recap and discuss the thrash up to Sick Summer, and what happened during the week:
