From Canada to Florida, This Mustang Cobra Tackled Its First Drag-and-Drive at Sick Week

The list of drag-and-drive events continues to grow, with 30 individual events through North America, Australia and Sweden. And although Canada now has a couple of options for drag-and-drive events, this year’s Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive had several participants make the trip from Canada to Florida to participate, including Jordan Pflanzner and his 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra.

Making the trip with his father Danny, Jordan arrived in Florida to participate in his first drag-and-drive event. Choosing the Dial-Your-Own class, the ‘Terminator’ Cobra would do battle with a ported stock blower and a small shot of nitrous on the otherwise stock engine with just shy of 190,000 milometers, plus a new clutch and tuned to operate on E-85 fuel.

“I’m expecting chaos but hoping it’s calm,” Jordan said. “It looks like a fun time with like-minded people. Plus, how can it get better than racing in February when there is snow on the ground at home!”

Jordan got his start at Orlando ‘Sick’ World Dragway with an 11.53 at 125 mph on day one, then produced an 11.76 at 123 mph from day two at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Making the trek north to South Georgia Motorsports Park yielded the best run of the week for Jordan, getting an 11.14 at 126 mph, a new personal best for him. Returning to Florida and the visit to Gainesville Raceway gave him fits, as the Cobra was only able to muster a 14.56 at 58 mph. Jordan and Danny made the trip back to Orlando ‘Sick’ World Dragway, and with an 11.51 at 124 mph pass turned in, they joined the drag-and-drive community of successful finishers with an average of 12.10.

“What an experience,” Jordan said in reflecting on Sick Week. “Learned a lot about what it takes to successfully finish. Drag and drives are not to be taken lightly; Very humbling.” And while he did have a few issues to overcome, he did manage to complete the week.

“Dad and I fought this fancy new clutch all week,” Jordan admitted. “It would drive fine on the road, but just wouldn’t hold when trying to launch this 3900-pound whale under full power. I really enjoyed the drives between tracks when we got to do them in the daylight! It’s Florida in February; can it get any better!?”
