Detailing the Sick Spit Show & Shine – How You Can Participate in the Sick Summer, Sick Michigan Miles or Sick Smokies Car Show with Sick the Mag

It’s been said that small refinements over time can yield some great results. When we introduced Summit Racing Equipment Sick Ward Presented by PEAK Performance at Sick Week in 2022, it was an all-inclusive experience.

We got requests for different levels of Sick Ward participation in 2023 after Sick Summer, and one year later at Sick Summer, we introduced the Sick Spit Show & Shine. What changed in one year’s time?

The newest class to the Sick At The Rock event is the Sick Street Car Challenge class - $32,000 in payouts are up for grabs!! This two-day drag and drive format class is now open to 200 lucky competitors, and you don’t necessarily need to be the quickest overall either, as we have 32 different categories to award $1,000 in, and we’ve come up with some good ones to give every competitor a shot at some money. It all takes place at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina April 10th - 12th, 2025! For more details on Sick At The Rock, and the over $50K in payouts, CLICK HERE!

“When we first created Sick Ward, I wanted it to include the drag and drive experience,” said Tom Bailey. “But, give the participants some extra perks, including parking in the pits, as well as snacks and drinks.”

After a full year of hosting the events, we started hearing how some enthusiasts wanted to join us for the entire week, but didn’t need the pit access for their vehicles. “I understood the changing dynamic,” Tom said.

“But there are some truly sweet rides that I felt deserved to have a special place to park in the pits to share with the enthusiasts. I’m still amazed at the level of track ready rides, but also show quality rides, that join us and support us at Sick The Mag events.”

The new format allows for two levels of experiencing a Sick The Magazine event, whether it is our staple Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive and Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks, or one of our ‘one-off’ unique events, like the Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil and Edelbrock Sick Smokies, that changes year to year.

The basic Sick Ward admission is a multi-day spectator ticket, with a discount and some bonuses! A Sick Ward ticket to any Sick drag and drive event covers one person and general spectator parking for all track days, and in addition to saving a good chunk off individual day tickets, it includes a Sick Ward windshield banner and participant t-shirt.

There is no limit on how many Sick Ward tickets you can purchase, so you can buy them for just you, or if you’re bringing your girlfriend, wife, or family, save some coin and go Sick Ward tickets to participate in a Sick event!

For those that want the next level of Sick Ward participation, the Sick Spit Show & Shine is the ticket. We reserve an area in the pits at each track we visit for those modified, classic and/or unique machines to park and display in. Depending on the event, it could be a smaller number of rides, so we review applications to determine our display rides.

Interested in entering the Sick Spit Show & Shine? Here’s how to do it:

-        Visit Sick The Mag’s merch site by CLICKING HERE.

-        Click on the ‘Sick Summer’, ‘Sick Michigan Miles’, or ‘Sick Smokies’ link at the top of the page.

-        Purchase your ticket to Sick Ward in the Sick Summer, Sick Michigan Miles, or Sick Smokies by clicking ‘spectator tickets’ and then the ‘Sick Ward.’

Once you have your Sick Ward ticket purchased, e-mail us at info@sickthemagazine.com with the following format and information:

-        Your e-mail subject line should include one of the following: ‘Sick Summer Sick Spit Show & Shine application’ – ‘Sick Michigan Miles Sick Spit Show & Shine application’ or ‘Sick Smokies Sick Spit Show & Shine application’

-        Your full name and e-mail address (as well the name and e-mail you purchased the Sick Ward entry under if it is different).

-        Tell us about your ride!! Basic details are okay, but a little more isn’t a bad idea here to help us make a decision.

-        Attach some photos – notice we used the plural of the word. Again, several clear photos that show us multiple angles on the vehicle helps. Don’t forget to show the engine, the interior, and anything else you think makes your ride stand out!

Once we have those details, we will take a look at all the details and decide if your vehicle is Sick enough to join the Sick Spit Show & Shine.

“We’re appreciative of the large number of drag and drive enthusiasts that want to join us at a Sick The Magazine event each year,” said Tom. “After a few years of talking to our Sick Ward participants and listening to their feedback, we think we’ve hit on the right balance for the Sick Ward part for all of our 2025 events.”
