Chris Conway Pilots Cadillac CTS-V to First 6-Second Pass and a New Record

Just one week ago we were reporting on multiple drivers getting some good testing results from US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan.

One of which was the Cadillac CTS-V record being moved to a 7.05 at 198 mph by George Benson. Fellow CTS-V runner Chris Conway clicked off a 7.15 at 192 mph during the same session, and Conway was just setting the stage for what was to come.

The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V of Conway established the new record mark for an Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) equipped Caddy with that 7.15 pass, but Conway wanted more.

So it wasn’t a surprise to see him back at US 131 Motorsports Park on Saturday April 13th in an attempt to get the record dropped a bit more.

Just before 5 pm Saturday afternoon, the scoreboard would reflect Conway’s efforts in the ultimate way, a 6.95 at 198.24 mph, becoming the first CTS-V in the 6-second range, and securing the quickest run for a factory VIN-numbered Cadillac, as well as the quickest IRS-equipped version as well. The slip also reflects an eye opening 1.11 60 foot time, and an eighth-mile of 4.50 at 161 mph.

To make the magic happen, Conway relies on a Mike Lough 427 cubic inch LSX powerplant, sporting LS3 Mast cylinder heads. A single 107-millimeter FIS turbo made 46 pounds of boost on the 6-second run, and a Holley Dominator ECU controls the functions.

The powered is passed to the rear by a Proformance Turbo 400 transmission, and the IRS is supported by TRZ Motorsports suspension, Menscer shocks, and 275 sized Hoosier drag radials.
