Broken Crankshaft Sends Alex Corella Into Thrash Mode for Possible Sick Week 2024 Appearance

A participant in the drag-and-drive lifestyle for several years, Alex Corella is a creature of habit. Although the turbocharged 1993 Ford Mustang known as Ginger Red could sometimes look like it’s headed for a mountain bike session instead of a drag strip, Alex and best mate Christina High bring a simple approach to drag-and-drive.

A part of the Lujan Motorsports camp, Alex has employed an in-house built 308 cubic inch pushrod-based Ford small block that’s been together since 2018.

But on a recent inspection, Alex found the crankshaft that’s been in service since 2016 needed some attention, discovering cracks that warrantied an immediate change of course.

“Not what I had planned,” Alex admitted upon finding the issues. “The plan was to freshen the short block up after Sick Week. But we all know how that goes!”

The small block Ford that has pushed the notch Mustang to the brink of cracking the 7-second zone is filled with all the best parts, and in the true spirit of a drag-and-drive car, Alex drives it everywhere.

Now the Lujan camp will thrash to get him ready for a third-straight appearance at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendor Overdrive, where Alex will look to repeat his 2022 win in the Street Race category.
