Alex Taylor Preps for Redemption and a Fistful of 6-Second Passes at Sick Summer

Nearly four years after she debuted the ’55 Chevrolet in pursuit of 6-second passes, Alex Taylor has accomplished a lot, including scoring class wins and joining the 6-second average and 200 mph clubs.

In fact, she competed Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive with her second-straight 6-second average, a 6.97, and finished second in the Unlimited Iron class to Bryant Goldstone.

With an exhibition class, the Peak Performance Street Car Shootout, at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals, and Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks just a few months down the road, the Taylors were contemplating what route to take to prep the ’55 for its next outing.

“We considered taking everything apart after Sick Week to freshen everything up,” Alex said. “But instead, dad looked at a few things, said it was good and we went with it as is. It came off Sick Week with good numbers, so we figured we’d do the (PEAK Performance Street Car Shootout at the) Route 66 NHRA Nationals. If all went well, we’d load it up and be ready for Sick Summer two weeks later.

The visit to Illinois was a solid one, as Taylor scored new personal bests for et and speed, with a 6.76 at 217 mph pass in the final of the NHRA event, despite tough conditions.

“The air didn’t really affect it, which is good considering the air was muggy and hot,” said Alex. “The car was like a bracket car on the incremental times. We know we face a little bit of a learning curve when we start turning it up and trying to go quicker than 6.70s.”

With a visit to Hot Rod Garage being the major “to-do” after the NHRA event, Alex gets some down time to prepare for Sick Summer.

“It’s almost weird not having to thrash, but at the same time we thrashed a little for the NHRA race. I’m looking forward to Sick Summer and completing it this year.”
