After a Successful Sick Week Earlier This Season, More Power and a Sick Summer Appearance are in the Works for This Dodge Pick-up

This Dodge D100 step side pick-up truck has been a part of Nicholas Wietor’s life for many years, and has served everything from racing to daily driver status.

Nicholas and his father restored the truck when he was 15 years old, and the truck made its drag-and-drive debut at the 2023 Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.

Nicholas put the naturally-aspirated Mopar-powered ride in the Dial-Your-Own (DYO) class, and lived in the low 13-second range for the week.

He opened the week with a 13.20 at 103 mph pass at Orlando ‘Sick’ World Dragway, clocked his best run of the week at Gainesville Raceway on day four with a 13.05 at 103 mph, and compiled a 13.15 average to complete his first event.

Nicholas wants to step up his performance for future drag-and-drive events, so he’s currently in the process of building a new 520 cubic inch big block Mopar engine. He’ll back it with a 727 transmission featuring a transbrake for better launches.

“Some goals for 2023 is learning the motor combination and work on getting the truck to run in the high 10-second range,” said Nicholas. “Plan for Sick Summer is to go fast, then Sick Week to be in the top 3 in the DYO class.

After not running a drag-and-drive before Sick Week, what convinced Nicholas to come to Sick Week and then Sick Summer? “It doesn’t matter if you’re the fastest car or the slowest car,” he said. “There’s a class for you, and drive the same routes as everyone.”

“The biggest challenges of drag-and-drive is the actual street drive,” Nicholas continued. “Dealing with traffic and making sure you read the map correctly.” Providing help and filling the co-pilot spot for Nicholas on Sick Summer is friend Justin Morningstar.
