A Day in Las Vegas, Followed by Dams, Canyons and Long Drive Day, Death Week Returns to Arizona to Complete an Epic Trip
When we last left you on Death Week, the group had bid a fond farewell to California and descended on Las Vegas for a day and a half of fun.
Friday provided the opportunity to enjoy a day at the NHRA Nevada Nationals event, or test their luck in one of the many casinos. As the evening drew near, an impromptu cruise down the Vegas Strip was put together, and Death Week competitors added some rumble to the Vegas lights!
Saturday morning, the final drive day would get underway with four checkpoints on the docket to be completed. The first would be Celebrity Cars and Coffee in Las Vegas, and the variety we witnessed on site was amazing!
Once caffeine and cool rides had been taken in, the competitors starting making their way to checkpoint number two, the Hoover Dam. Several took the opportunity to tour the storied facility, and see what 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete created!
The third checkpoint of the day would take participants down some winding roads and amazing views to Grand Canyon West, for a photo opportunity at the West sign.
One competitor getting a small scare before getting to the sign was Richard Guido, who found a rear control arm tab had nearly broken clean off the housing of his storied Pontiac GTO!
Luckily, fellow competitors were there to lend a hand, and a local welder was tasked to rejoin the two parts and get Guido back on his merry way!
A few Death Weekers continued on to the West Canyon building, where bus rides to the Canyon and Skywalk options were available. Some opted to return to the route, and a few trailer burnouts were had.
The last checkpoint of the day, and the final one of the event, was Route 66 Museum, where competitors would take their place under the Route 66 sign.
Today, it’s back to where it all started: Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona for the final track day of Death Week.
Who will complete the week with the best average and win the first Death Week champion helmet? Who will be the Top Tourist? How many will survive to earn a coveted ‘Survivor’ skull?
Come out and watch all the action, starting at 10 am Pacific time today! Spectators are welcome through the gate starting at 9 am.
We’ll have all the results and details here on Sick the Magazine website, as well as in the pages of Sick the Magazine.
