About the car
This 1962 Chevy II Gasser is without doubt the coolest car we have EVER given away. Yes, this is the exact same car we drove on Route 66 and yes, it will run nine-second quarter-miles!
This car was first acquired by Jim Forbes as a project in 2013 to be turned into the gasser you see before you. Power is supplied by a supercharged 435ci big block Chevy mated to a TH400 automatic transmission with a Gear Vendors overdrive.
The straight front axle has been moved forward by four inches, and the rear axle has been relocated forward by eight inches. The car is also equipped with a Weiand intake manifold, a 6-71 supercharger, two Carter 750-cfm carburetors, a switch-pitch torque converter, a Ford 9″ rear end, a Detroit Locker differential, a 3.89:1 final-drive ratio, staggered-width wheels, front disc brakes and rear drums, fenderwell exhaust headers, a roll cage, and black-upholstered aluminum bucket seats. Simpson five-point safety harnesses are provided for both occupants. The interior also includes a red-painted dashboard, a B&M Turbo Stick–style fabricated shifter, a removable wooden center console, and a black-rimmed Superior 500 steering wheel. The steering column has an aftermarket switch for the horn. A rack for hauling drag slicks is located where the rear seat once was.
Slotted Fenton Gyro 15″ front wheels with Cragar center caps are mounted with 5.60-15 Coker Pro Trac tires, and black steel 15″ 1950s Chevrolet wheels are wrapped in Coker Classic L78-15 rear rubber. Braking is provided by Wilwood vented front discs along with rear drums. The front suspension features leaf springs, a cross-steer setup, and a straight axle that has been moved forward four inches from the factory location. The rear suspension has monoleaf springs, fabricated traction bars, and air shocks, and it has been moved ahead eight inches; the wheel openings and the floor have been modified accordingly.
Factory instrumentation is composed of a 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and warning lights. A Stewart-Warner 10k-rpm mechanical tachometer is stationed atop the dash above other Stewart-Warner gauges monitoring oil pressure, water temperature, and manifold pressure.
The 435ci V8 is based on a 1991 Chevrolet 454 big-block V8, bored .040″ over and utilizes the following components:
396 cross-drilled and balanced 1960s steel crankshaft
427 Speed-Pro 8.5:1 forged pistons
LS6 connecting rods resized with ARP bolts
“Snowflake” open-chamber rectangular-port 1970 ZL1 ported cylinder heads w/2.25″ intake and 1.88″ exhaust valves
Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft (0.566″ intake and 0.575″ exhaust lift, 242°/254° duration, 113° lobe-separation angle)
Comp Cams roller-tip ball-pivot rocker arms
Weiand intake manifold
6-71 GM supercharger with 2″ belt (approximately 6 psi of boost)
Mallory dual-point tachometer-drive distributor
Two Carter 750-cfm four-barrel carburetors
Stelling & Hellings reproduction Cobra air cleaners w/Wix elements
Fabricated exhaust headers with 2″ primary and 3.5″ square flange collectors
Full-length 2.5″ dual exhaust system with mufflers
Crossflow aluminum radiator
General Motors aluminum water pump
Schlitz 16-ounce coolant-recovery can
Chevrolet chrome valve covers
PCV system on one side, header evacuation on other side
Moroso oil pan with tie-rod notch

Holley blue electric fuel pump w/front-mounted pressure regulator
Replacement Delco starter
Replacement Delco alternator w/external electromechanical regulator
Front-mounted Interstate 26R battery
Custom wiring harness w/fuses and screw terminals
The engine was partly disassembled in 2022, and the rod bearings and valve springs were replaced. The water pump was rebuilt in 2014, and the supercharger was overhauled in 2023. The car’s chassis number indicates that it was originally powered by a 194ci inline-six.
The three-speed TH400 automatic transmission is complemented by the following parts:
Hughes Performance manual-shift valve body and 34-element intermediate sprag
Switch-pitch torque converter w/3,000-rpm and 1,800-rpm stall speeds
Gear Vendors overdrive w/custom manual control circuit
Transmission cooler
Driveshaft loop
Hughes Performance transmission shield
1957 Ford 9″ rear housing
Moser 31-spline axles w/½” studs
Detroit Locker differential
3.89:1 gears
Strange Engineering center case and pinion yoke
1350-series 3″ transmission yoke
A log of more than 120 quarter-mile passes documents a quickest elapsed time of 9.896 seconds at 134.89 mph, which occurred in September 2019 at Virginia Motorsports Park. A pair of M&H Racemaster slicks mounted on slotted wheels will also accompany the vehicle.
Of and of course, you’ll get $5,000 in cash to go with the car too!
