What a Gas! New Car, Mad Thrash, Will It Survive Sick Summer?

It all started with a classified ad for a 1957 Chevrolet wagon bracket car: “car cannot be driven long distances.”

If you know Tom Bailey and the drag-and-drive mentality, that’s a challenge!

“That stood out to me,” Tom said of the ad’s statement. “What does it take to take one of those cars and turn it into a drag-and-drive car?

After a little convincing, EJ Naegeli would make the trip to Virginia to pick up the ’57 Chevy and return to Michigan on Monday May 29th.

This gave EJ and the Sick the Mag crew just 4 days to convert the car for street and strip duty to survive Sick Summer Presented by TBM Brakes, starting on June 4th.

There was thrashing, there were late nights, and even drag-and-drive competitor Jason Sack was roped into helping!

EJ and crew got all the final items checked off the list by Saturday morning, and he ‘57 Chevy roared to life!

After a few shakedown launches and some hours of troubleshooting, the wagon was loaded and departed for Cordova, Illinois and Day Zero of Sick Summer - Sunday tech inspection, and test and tune day.

Sick Summer was not EJ’s first drag-and-drive experience, but it marked her first experience racing behind the wheel.
