NMCA Hosts First Sick Shootout of 2023 at US 131 Motorsports Park
With the increased popularity of drag-and-drive events, some of the classes and participants have been showcased in other series as well in 2023.
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) hosted eight of the quickest street-legal drag-and-drive rides as part of the Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance at Chicago’s Route 66 Raceway in May.
Then, the NHRA featured four rides from the recently completed Rocky Mountain Race Week event at the final NHRA Mile-High Nationals to make exhibition passes on two days in front of a sold-out crowd.
The National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) held a Sick Shootout class at a pair of events in 2022, and the class will return for two events in 2023, starting with the NMRA / NMCA Power Festival, held this weekend at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan.

The action on the track for these competitors starts with a pair of time runs on Friday for the group to get tuned up, followed on Saturday with three rounds of eliminations, done in a shootout-style format.
A random chip draw is used to determine the pairings for eliminations, and the final round between the two drivers with the most round wins will be contested on Sunday to determine the overall champion.
The other six competitors can also participate in grudge-style ‘call-out’ match-ups on Sunday.
