Mom Knows Best When It Comes to Drag-And-Drive

Mothers can have a knack for helping sons, daughters and even husbands make better choices. The 2023 edition of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive is no exception, as Kathy Williams’ advisement to son Joshua Williams on the car to take for a week of track and street enjoyment was to take her 2012 Cadillac CTS-V coupe known as ‘Jonny V.”

One year previous, Joshua and Kathy embarked on the first Sick Week event as part of the Sick Ward group, knocking down the miles in Josh’s stock Dodge Dakota R/T pick-up. “My momma told me after the week ‘Josh your truck is too damn slow! We are taking my Caddy next year so you can see how it is done,’” said Joshua.

So, Kathy decided to not only take her quicker Caddy, but make the jump from passenger to driver in 2023. “So now here we are, excited to go even faster this time around,” Joshua admitted.

Despite only having long tube headers as the lone performance upgrade, Kathy’s Cadillac would still be a quick ride for a plush yet sporty ride. Kathy started with a 12.18 pass on day one at Orlando ‘Sick’ World Dragway, and followed with a 12.05 time slip from Bradenton Motorsports Park on day two. An 11.92 at 119.95 mph, her best pass of the week, would be Kathy’s reward from Sick Week’s lone stop in Georgia, South Georgia Motorsports Park, on day three.

Back in Florida at Gainesville for day four, Kathy was back in the twelves again with a 12.28 at Gainesville Raceway. Returning to the starting point, Orlando ‘Sick’ World Dragway, for day five, Kathy completed the week with a 12.15 run, and her second Sick Week with son Joshua.

“Drag and Drive events are awesome in the fact that you aren’t just towing your machines from track to track,” said Joshua. “You have to think ahead in the week to plan for issues.”

“Our biggest strength is that the car is nearly stock so it should be fairly reliable,” Josh continued. “The biggest challenge now will be to keep my mom from wanting to make her car faster.”
