Devin Vanderhoof Making Changes to His Mustang Convertible For the 2024 Season

After a 2023 season that started with setting the standard for a 235 tire (26-inch x 8.5-inch width) with a 4.60 at 171 mph in route to winning the Rowdy Radial title at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, and included two more wins at Sick Summer Presented by TBM Brakes and Hot Rod Drag Week, Devin Vanderhoof is changing the game up.

The white 1993 Ford Mustang convertible, which made its last appearance at Duck X’s No Mercy event at South Georgia Motorsports Park for the Street Car Braggin Rights class, is undergoing some changes for the 2024 drag-and-drive season, which will start at Sick Week.

The biggest differences from the outside are a new hood and a new front bumper cover with a splitter. The new cover has a center opening for the radiator, a change up from the driver’s side radiator opening to feed air to it. Performance Fab did some aluminum panels to help direct the air to the radiator and the turbochargers.

Yes; we said turbos! Devin is making the switch from one single turbocharger to a pair of HPT 88-millimeter turbos to feed the big block Chevrolet from PAR Racing Engines.

“The 118-millimeter from FIS that was on the car was a beast,” said Devin. “It ran great, but in the quarter-mile it was getting hot. I also really wanted to center up the radiator in an effort to keep airflow thru the front of the car a bit more uniform. Making the switch to twin turbos accomplished all of this.”

He also plans to switch to Turbosmart’s new Pneumatic Straight Gate wastegates. “The hope is we can control boost and be a little more accurate with it,” Devin said. For a little more control in the suspension department, the Mustang got a pair of Racecraft front lower control arms, as well as a pair of travel limiters.

Devin reviews the changes in his most recent video here.
